On This Date: April 28th, 1982
The Stegosaurus was designated as the official state FOSSIL on April 28, 1982. This dinosaur lived in the area now known as Colorado about 150 million years ago. There are only six skeletons of the Stegosaurus on public display in the United States, one of which may be viewed at the Museum of Natural History in Denver.
